One of the best parts of going to a Grand Prix, especially one abroad is getting to go to a new place, meet new people and having new experiences. Of course playing Magic is awesome as well!

The Team Limited format Grand Prix Kyoto 2016 takes place in Kyoto a city known for having a rich history and a great many must see locations.

Here we will offer up some suggestions for great places to visit when you are in the ancient city of Kyoto, Japan’s former capital.



1. Fushimi Inari Shrine (伏見稲荷大社)

The road to Fushimi Inari Shrine is lined with endless Torii and gives of a beautiful otherworldly vibe.

Past the thousand Torii passage you can overlook the vibrant city of Kyoto from the shrine.

Fushimi Inari Shrine is also located nearby the Grand Prix Venue.

From [Kyoto Station(京都駅)] take the JR Nara-Line(JR 奈良線) to [Inari Station(稲荷駅)]





2. Nijo Castle (二条城)

Former home of the Tokugawa family this stronghold still protects the history of Japan to this day.

An impressive fortress, contained within it is a beautiful garden surrounded by wondrous architecture of old.

Take a stroll through the castle and marvel at history.

Access:
From [Kyoto Station(京都駅)] take the Subway Karasuma Line(烏丸線) to [Karasuma-Oike Station(烏丸御池駅)] Swap to the Subway Tozai-Line(東西線) and get off at [Nijojo-mae Station(二条城前駅)]





3. Kiyomizu-Dera Temple (清水寺)

Kiyomizu-Dera Temple is probably Kyoto’s most famous landmark.

The Temple is encompassed by nature on all sides, with the scenery varying wildly depending on the seasons.

Of particular note is the main temple building terrace known as the “Kiyomizu Stage” where you can get an exceptional view of Kyoto.

At [Kyoto Station(京都駅)] take the bus from Kyoto Municipal Transportation Bureau Bus 206(京都市交通局バス 206系統) for [Higashiyama-dori Kita-oji Bus Terminal(東山通北大路バスターミナル 行き)] and get off at[Gojo-zaka(五条坂)]from [Gojo-zaka(五条坂)] it’s a 10 minute walk to Kiyomizu-Dera





4. Kinkakuji Temple (金閣寺)

The temple is adorned in an exquisite gold-leaf facade and makes for a sight one is not soon to forget.

Its beauty not just stemming from the building itself, but also how well it harmoniously blends in with its surroundings.

5. Sanjusangen-do (三十三間堂)

The temple houses a famous statue of its main deity – the thousand armed Kannon, which is considered a Japanese national treasure. Over a thousand other statues depicting various Buddhist deities are also on display.

Marvel at the awe-inspiring statues, and learn about the Buddhist history of Japan.
