Hello I am Martin Muller and I will be writing for Hareruya from now on.
Today I want to talk about Jund Delirium the deck team EUreka built for Pro Tour Eldritch Moon that got me to an 8-1-1 record in the constructed portion.
6 《Forest》 4 《Swamp》 1 《Mountain》 4 《Smoldering Marsh》 1 《Cinder Glade》 4 《Evolving Wilds》 4 《Llanowar Wastes》 -Lands (24)- 2 《Nissa, Vastwood Seer》 2 《Pilgrim's Eye》 2 《Mindwrack Demon》 3 《Ishkanah, Grafwidow》 2 《Distended Mindbender》 1 《Emrakul, the Promised End》 -Creatures (12)- |
4 《Fiery Impulse》 3 《Traverse the Ulvenwald》 4 《Grapple with the Past》 1 《Ultimate Price》 3 《Kozilek's Return》 3 《Languish》 3 《Vessel of Nascency》 3 《Liliana, the Last Hope》 -Spells (24)- |
3 《Nahiri's Wrath》 2 《Den Protector》 2 《Transgress the Mind》 2 《To the Slaughter》 2 《Pick the Brain》 1 《Dragonmaster Outcast》 1 《Emrakul, the Promised End》 1 《Ultimate Price》 1 《Languish》 -Sideboards (15)- |
I won’t go in too deep on how we got to the deck. But I do think it helps a lot to know why the different cards and the numbers are as they are and why I think they should be changed slightly.
The deck started out very different with 4 《Haunted Dead》, 4 《Catacomb Sifter》, and 4 《Distended Mindbender》 so way more focused on emerging.
What the early testing showed was how good casting 《Distended Mindbender》 and flashbacking 《Kozilek's Return》 was. Exiling 2 cards from the opponents hand and dealing 5 damage to all creatures were just such a strong play.
But what the early testing also showed was how inconsistent the deck was. So we tried to make it more stable and a bit less powerful and I think we got there.
The Jund Delirium decks main game plan is to mill itself with 《Grapple with the Past》, 《Vessel of Nascency》 and 《Mindwrack Demon》, stall the game with cheap removal, sweepers and most importantly 《Ishkanah, Grafwidow》 and then cast 《Emrakul, the Promised End》 or 《Distended Mindbender》 plus flashback a 《Kozilek's Return》.
So if you are going to try the Jund Delirium deck or if you are already playing it, try to keep your life total as high as possible while filling up the graveyard and wait for one of the big turnaround plays.
One of the best things about the small emerge package is how your opponents have to respect your enablers even when you don’t have any emerge cards. There should probably have been one more 《Pilgrim's Eye》 for this exact reason.
The metagame has shifted a decent amount since the Pro tour. GW Tokens are nowhere to be seen and UR Burn is now a thing and it deserve respect at least in the sideboard. Right now I’m playing 2 《Pulse of Murasa》 in the sideboard I don’t love the card but it’s the best option available. I also play 2 《Duress》 mainly in response to that deck.
There’s a lot of 《Liliana, the Last Hope》 decks running around so I would move 《To the Slaughter》 to the main deck.
《Dragonmaster Outcast》 is a great way of getting a different angle of attack I even boarded it in against 《Liliana, the Last Hope》 decks. 《Caustic Caterpillar》 is a card we didn’t play at the Pro Tour because we didn’t expect to play against any important enchantments or artifacts but with the addition of 《Fevered Visions》 I think it deserves a sideboard slot. I would recommend changing the deck slightly, to something like this:
6 《Forest》 4 《Swamp》 1 《Mountain》 4 《Smoldering Marsh》 1 《Cinder Glade》 4 《Evolving Wilds》 4 《Llanowar Wastes》 -Lands (24)- 3 《Pilgrim's Eye》 2 《Nissa, Vastwood Seer》 1 《Mindwrack Demon》 3 《Ishkanah, Grafwidow》 2 《Distended Mindbender》 1 《Emrakul, the Promised End》 -Creatures (12)- |
3 《Fiery Impulse》 3 《Traverse the Ulvenwald》 4 《Grapple with the Past》 3 《Kozilek's Return》 2 《To the Slaughter》 3 《Languish》 3 《Vessel of Nascency》 3 《Liliana, the Last Hope》 -Spells (24)- |
3 《Transgress the Mind》 2 《Den Protector》 2 《Duress》 2 《Pulse of Murasa》 2 《Pick the Brain》 1 《Caustic Caterpillar》 1 《Dragonmaster Outcast》 1 《Emrakul, the Promised End》 1 《Languish》 -Sideboards (15)- |
