Do you know the tournament they called “The Finals”?
Billed as the “Final Showdown Between the Titans of Constructed,” the tournament took place at the end of each year for 17 years from 1995 to 2011, producing plenty of drama as well as superstars along the way.
So essentially, The Last Sun is a spiritual successor to The Finals, a kind of “year-end celebration” tournament.
Kentaro Yamamoto won his first title altogether in dazzling fashion when he became the event’s inaugural champion at The Last Sun 2013 [Japanese coverage only].
Continuing on, Takamoto Hayashi waded through a brutal series of powerhouse players and intense games at The Last Sun 2014 [limited English coverage here], but emerged victorious atop them all, making a name for himself domestically.
And so as 2015 winds down, The Last Sun 2015 will kick off, running this year on both Legacy and Standard. Given the full invitation list extends to stalwart champions of the hard-fought qualifier series, to each format’s “kami” from the Kami Series, and to pro players, we’re sure to see remarkably high-level play.
